Workshops can be 1 hour to several days tailored to your school, family, or community needs. Please contact for details. Other costs include: travel outside Winnipeg and accommodations as required.

We offer a variety of professional development opportunities focused upon building strong literacy and numeracy skills for all students. 
Specializing in evidence-based practice and effective methodologies especially suitable for students with language-based difficulties.

For any topics of the following, sessions can be adapted to 1 hour, half day or full day options.

OGA course content (can be taken in any order, no assignments, NON-ACCREDITED)

  • Orton-Gillingham Approach, Specific Learning Disabilities, Neurobiology of Language + Literacy (8 hours)

  • Oral Language, Phonological Awareness, Reading Development, Oral Reading (8 hours)

  • Vocabulary, Informal Assessments including Early Reading Screeners (DIBELS and others), Handwriting (8 hours)

  • Phonics, Anglo-Saxon Morphology, Orton-Gillingham Approach fundamentals, practice, and lesson plan, Basic Grammar + Writing (4 eight-hour sessions)

  • Latin (16 hours)

  • Greek (8 hours)

  • Advanced Composition (8 hours)

  • Psych-Ed report analysis (12 hours)

  • Case Studies (8 hours)

Other

  • Dyslexia Workshop– What is dyslexia and how can we help?

  • Introduction to Structured Literacy/Orton-Gillingham– What is the meaning of SL and OG, how has it developed, and what can we do in our classrooms? What is OG and why is it effective?

  • OG Coaching following coursework to review lesson plan, delivery, diagnostic consult, etc.

Dyslexia

This session is intended to help with understanding dyslexia including a dyslexia simulation, overview of dyslexia and recommendations to support learners with dyslexia.

Etymology

How the study of words and their history can help learners with vocabulary, reading, spelling and comprehension.

Morphology

Understanding how Anglo-Saxon, Latin and Greek help our learners to make sense of English including vocabulary within content area subjects and advanced reading-writing.

 

Assistive Technology

Review of assistive technology for students to develop literacy and numeracy skills including executive functioning, organizing and study tools

Study Skills

Let’s get ready for exams and tests! We will review tools and strategies for students to prepare for memorization, reading advanced materials as well as reading for specific purposes.
